Murray wins his second TGF Event in 2011 in the Players Championship

Players Championship at Duke University (Round Two)

Durham, NC

In round two, temperatures were close to freezing and failed to break out of the thirties.  The cold weather made the course even tougher to play and the wind made par fours play like par fives.  The unfortunate weather did not stop the players from performing exceptionally well.  The field remained competitive and the players refused to give up.

Grayson Murray of Raleigh, North Carolina overcame a strong and talented field to lead the tournament overall and win the junior/senior high school division.  He shot a 70 for a two-day total of 139, a striking five under par.   Taylor Coalson of Dobson, North Carolina rallied from behind to shoot a 74 and tie Mark Pinti of Bridgeport, West Virginia with a total score of 148.  After a scorecard playoff, Coalson was awarded second place in the junior/senior division and fourth place overall, while Pinti took third place in the junior/senior division and fifth place overall.  Danny Gleeson of Raleigh, North Carolina played two days of impressive golf to claim first place in the freshman/sophomore division and second place overall.  Gleeson shot a 73 for a two-day total of 145.  Carter Jenkins of Raleigh, North Carolina shot 73 and a two-day total of 147 to earn second place in the freshman/sophomore division and third place overall.  Rounding out the leaderboard was Jackson Spires of Fayetteville, North Carolina, who shot 76 and a two-day total of 150 to receive third place in the freshman/sophomore division and sixth place overall.

Greer Clausen traveled from Bloomfield Hills, Michigan to play in her first TGF event.  Clausen came out strong and shot an 88 for a two day total of 174 and captured first place in the girls division.  Siranon Shoomee of Sanford, North Carolina and Kelly Mansfield of Newport, North Carolina played hard to determine second and third place.  After a tie with a two-day total of 186, Shoomee earned second place in a scorecard playoff.

Vinar & Zemaitis are Victorious at the Spring Kick Off

The Spring Kick Off at The Carolina (Round 2)

Pinehurst, NC

The juniors were prepared for the heavy rain that was expected to hit The Carolina.  Fortunately, the rain did not fall all day and the tournament remained in full play.  High winds added an extra obstacle, but the juniors stayed focus and challenged the golf course with great enthusiasm.

Kendrick Vinar, a sophomore, shot a 77 to hold on to his lead from day one and place first in the high school boys division with an overall score of 148.  This victory was well deserved after Vinar revealed his true character in round one and called a two-stroke penalty on himself.  Vinar’s honesty and hard play produced a winning outcome.  Benjamin Griffin improved by three strokes to shoot a 73 and tie Thomas Lilly for second place with an overall score of 149.  Griffin and Lilly rounded out the leaderboard for the freshman/sophomore group.  Taylor Coalson placed first in the junior/senior group and fourth overall with a score of 152.  Larry Han shot a remarkable 71 to earn the lowest round for day two.  Han improved by twelve strokes and earned second place in the junior/senior group and sixth place overall.  Lucas Kim of Toronto, Ontario finished third in the junior/senior group with an overall score of 156.

The middle school boys played impressive rounds under the given conditions.  William Lewis shot a 79 and 156 overall to hold on to first place.  Michael McMahon rallied from behind to shot a 77 and earn second place with a 158 overall.   Joshua Allen placed third with a 163.

Morgan Zemaitis started the day four strokes off the lead in the girls division.  Zemaitis overcame this deficit and shot an 84 and 173 overall to earn first place and win by four strokes over Siranon Shoomee.
